Winter Fun at Stone Mountain Park

Stone Mountain Park, located sixteen miles east of downtown Atlanta, is a popular destination at any time of the year. As the weather gets colder, there are special reasons to visit the park. A Stone Mountain Christmas and Snow Mountain draw lots of visitors who are looking for family friendly activities.

Stone Mountain Christmas is an Atlanta holiday favorite for many families. The park is transformed for the holidays by over 2 million lights. The special Christmas activities are scheduled through January 2, 2011. Entertainment includes holiday shows such as the Holly Jolly Cabaret Show, the Sleigh Ride Musical Revue, and the Simply Christmas Musical Revue. Families can enjoy watching the Polar Express 4-D Experience and the nightly Christmas parade. Children can visit with Santa and have their picture taken with the Snow Angel.

December 11 is the opening day of the park's Snow Mountain, Atlanta's only snow park. No previous experience is needed to enjoy the activities, and all equipment is included in the admission price. Families can enjoy tubing on the park's 400 foot snow hill. Tube Runners offers ten lanes for single tube riders, and the new Avalanche Alley has three lanes for multiple riders. The Snow Zone area offers a number of entertaining options. Younger children can tube and make a snowman or a snow angel in Snowman Valley. Igloo City is the place to build a snow fort or snow village. The Snowball Shooting Gallery lets visitors practice their aim as they throw snowballs at targets that spin and flip. New to the park this year is Fort Snow, where visitors can explore tunnels, turrets, and mid-sized slides. Little Angels is an area designed for children ages 3 and under to play in the snow. The Snodeck allows people to take a break from the snow play and enjoy food and beverages. At the end of the day visitors can warm up and make S'mores by the bonfire at the Snofire area.

Visitors can spend the day enjoying all that Stone Mountain has to offer. In addition to the special winter activities, the park's regular attractions are all open. So bundle up the family and head to Stone Mountain Park for some winter fun.
